什么是爱滋病：所谓爱滋病（AIDS）是Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome的简称，即“后天免疫缺乏症候群”。爱滋病是由爱滋病毒所引起的，爱滋病毒又称为人类免疫缺乏病毒（Human Immunodeficiency Virus），简称HIV。
人类天生具有免疫功能，当细菌、病毒等侵入人体时，在免疫功能正常运作下，就算生病了也能治愈。然而，HIV所攻击的正是人体免疫系统的中枢细胞—T4淋巴细胞，致使人体丧失抵抗能力，不能与那些对生命有威胁的病菌战斗，从而使人体发生多种极为少见的、不可治愈的感染和肿瘤，最终导致感染者死亡！
值得一提的是，HIV本身并不会引发任何疾病，而是当免疫系统被HIV破坏后，人体由于失去抵抗能力而感染其他的疾病导致死亡！
