考题 The Importance of Information in the Supply Chain Information is important because it provides the facts that supply chain managers use to make decisions. Without information, a manger will not know what customers want, how much inventory is in stock and when more products should be produced and shipped. In short, without information, a manager can only make decisions blindly. Managers must understand how information is gathered and analyzed. This is where information technology comes into play. Information technology serves as the eyes and ears of management in a supply chain, capturing and delivering the information necessary to make a good decision. For instance, an IT system at a personal computer manufacturer may help a manager analyze the information and recommend an action. The manager can use the remaining chips first, then look at demand forecast, and determine whether to order more chips. There are four reasons why timely and accurate information has become more important for effective logistics system design and operations. First, customers recognize information about order status, product availability, delivery schedule, and shipment tracking as necessary elements of total customer service. Then, managers realize that information can be used to reduce human resource requirements. What’s more, information increases flexibility with regard to how, when, and where resources may be used to gain strategic advantage. And finally, enhanced information transfer and exchange capability using the Internet is changing relationships between buyers and sellers and refining channel relationships.21. If we think deeply to the topic,we would find that this phenomenon has more disadvantages than advantages.2.This phenomenon has many advantages for receiving countries which will automatically benefit from the skills and talents of immigrated people who were educated and qualified in their home countnes.3.However,developing countries are deeply affected by this phenomenon since they are deprived from millions of their skilled workers, doctors, hardworking Engineers, and billions of man power. Those elites represent the backbone of their economies and once they travel abroad, their economies will not flourish and promote. In fact, there are many reasons behind brain drain.Firstly, the Government is the first responsible for brain drain. 考题 共用题干 第二篇Human and the EarthIn terms of the evolution of life on Earth, human beings have just arrived.Despite their shori time on Earth, however, people have brought about enormous changes to the surface of the planet一changes far out of proportion to the interval of time they have occupied it.People have more control over their surroundings than any other species on Earth. With the combination of intelligence and manual skill(allowing us to make and use tools),people have found ways to use plant and animal resources, mineral ores, fuels, and many other materials and resources from the Earth. As the number of people on Earth increases,it becomes increasingly difficult for the population to survive on the resources of the land. The amount of land is limited.Although agricultural production can be increased by use of machinery such as tractors and the addition of fertilizer, the land ultimately can produce only so much food and no more.As the human population grows, people consume more.Clearly, some locations on Earth already have too many people;in many of these areas, future increases will surely bring about more poverty and suffering. Yet people in rich nations use proportionally far more of the available resources than people in poorer nations. As they consume these resources without restraint, they also waste large amounts of them.People are only a very small fraction of all the living things on the planet.Yet their numbers create a drain on resources that can't be renewed. For example, the amount of water on Earth is limited, this water is cleaned through natural processes. However, the natural processes for filtering water can clean only a certain amount of water by removing the pollution.Likewise,a limited amount of petroleum can be found under the Earth's surface.Petroleum is a valuable resource.Should people use it up to manufacture petrol for automobiles? As people work to control the planet and make life comfortable, are they using up resources that are needed for their survival?Who use more available resources according to the passage?A:Rich people on Earth. B:Poor people on Earth.C:People in developed countries. D:People in developing countries.

考题 共用题干 第三篇Global Cancer Rates to Rise by 50% by 2020The number of new cancer cases worldwide is expected to increase by 50%by the year 2020.But a new report suggests that as many as a third of new cancers could be avoided by adopting healthier lifestyles and through public health action. The World Cancer Report, released by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, shows that cancer has now emerged as a major public health threat in developing countries as well as rich ones.Overall, cancer was responsible for 12%of all deaths in 2000.But in many countries more than a quarter of all deaths are caused by cancer. The report shows that 1 0 million new cancers were diagnosed globally in 2000,and that number is expected to rise to 15 million by 2020.Researchers say most of that increase will mainly be due to steadily aging populations in both developed and developing countries and current trends in smoking and other unhealthy habits."Cancer has emerged as a major public health problem in developing countries for the first time, matching its effect in industrialized(工业化的)countries , " said researcher Paul Kleihues,MD,director of IARC,in a news release."Once considered a'Western' disease, the Report highlights that more than 50 percent of the world's cancer burden,in terms of both numbers of cases and deaths, already occurs in developing countries."The risk of being diagnosed with cancer in developed countries is double that in less-developed ones. However, the risk of dying from cancer is much higher in developing countries , where 80% of cancer patients already have late-stage incurable tumors(肿瘤) at the time of diagnosis.Researchers say cancer rates have traditionally been higher in developed countries due to greater exposure to tobacco, occupational carcinogens(致癌物),and an unhealthy Western diet and lifestyle. As less-developed countries become industrialized and more prosperous, they tend to adopt the high-fat diet and low physical activity levels typically seen in the West, which increase cancer rates. The risk of dying from cancer in developed countries isA:double that in developing countries.B:much higher than that in developing countries.C:the same as that in developing countries.D:much lower than that in developing countries.

考题 问答题Practice 4 Some critics believe that the very concept of intellectual property is mistaken. Unlike physical property, ideas are non-rivalrous goods that can be used by many people at the same time without making them any less useful. The term “intellectual property” was widely adopted only in the 1960s, as a way to bundle trademarks, copyrights and patents. Those critics argue that today’s rights are too strict and make the sharing of knowledge too expensive. The paradox about intellectual property in IT and telecommunications is that it eases the exchange of technology and acts as a bottleneck for innovation at the same time. The whole system is in a stage of transformation. “Markets require institutions, and institutions take a long time to develop. Today, the institutions for a ‘market for technology’ are not well developed, and it is costly to use this market,” says a specialist. Ideas are to the information age what the physical environment was to the industrial one: the raw material of economic progress. Just as pollution or an irresponsible use of property rights threatens land and climate, so an overly stringent system of intellectual-property rights risks holding back technological progress. Disruptive innovation that threatens the existing order must be encouraged, but the need to protect ideas must not be used as an excuse for greed. Finding the right balance will test the industry, policymakers and the public in the years ahead.
