ABefore, I thought that a man who was wise and good would become rich, but now I know this is not always true. I learned it from my teacher. He is both wise and good, but he is not rich at all. He may become rich if he gives up(放弃) teaching and goes into business. But he likes his job and thinks it,s wonderful to help young people. He stays at school from morning till night and works very hard. He always smiles at us when we go to ask him for help. He is kinder to us than any other teacher in our school. I think it must be easier to learn history or math than to learn how to become a man like him. He scolds(责备 ) us when we do something wrong, but it makes us try to do better. We all wish to study with him as long as possible. But that may be impossible. Some of us may become doctors, some become businessmen, some be- come engineers, some become writers, but we all want one thing very much. It is that we all want to be teachers in the future.( )21. Passage TwoWhen we see well, we do not think about our eyes very often. It is only when we cannot see perfectly that we realize how important our eyes are.People who are nearsighted can only see things that are very close to their eyes. Everything else is not so clear. Many people who do a lot of close work, such as writing, reading and sewing, become near sighted. Then they have to wear glasses in order to see distant (远处的) things clearly'.People who are nearsighted suffer from just the opposite problem. They can see things that are far away, but they have difficulty in reading a book unless they hold it at arm's length. If they want to do much reading, they must get glasses, too.Other people do not see clearly because their eyes are not exactly the right shape. They have what is called astigmatism (散光). This, too, can be corrected by glasses. Some people's eyes become cloudy because of cataracts (白内障). Long ago these people often became blind. Now, however, it is possible to operate on the cataracts and remove them.Having two good eyes is important for judging distances. Each eye sees things from a slightly different angle (角度). To prove this to yourself, look at an object out of one eye; then look at the same object outof the other eye. You will find the object's relation to the background (背景) and other things around it has changed. The difference between these two different eye views helps us to judge how far away an object is. People who have only one eye cannot judge distance as people with two eyes.40. We should take good care of our eyes ______.A. only when we cannot see perfectlyB. only when we can see wellC. even if we can see wellD. only when we realize how important our eyes are

When I opened the first "Body Shop" in 1976, what I wanted to do was to earn (挣) enough money to feed my children. Today the "Body Shop" is a great company growing fast all around the world. In the years since we began, I have learned a lot. Much of what I have learned will be found in this book, because I believe that we, as a company, have something worth saying about how to run a successful business without giving up what you really believe in.
It's not an ordinary business book. It is not just about my life, either. The message is that to succeed in business you have to be different. Business can be fun, and can be run with love and do good. In business, as in life, I need to enjoy myself, to have a feeling of my family and to feel excited by something unusual. I have always wanted the people who work for the "Body Shop" to feel the same way.
Now this book sends these ideas out into the world, and makes them public. I'd like to think there are no limits (界限) to our "family", and no limits to what can be done. I find that an exciting thought. I hope you do, too.
What is the writer's main purpose (目的) in writing this text?
A. To tell the reader her life story.
B. To tell people how she brought up her children.
C. To let people know how rich she was.
D. To introduce her ideas to the reader.

第一篇Gross National HappinessIn the last century, new technology improved the lives of many people in many countries. However, one country resisted these changes.High in the Himalayan mountains of Asia, the kingdom of Bhutan remained separate. Its people and Buddhist(佛教)culture had not been affected for almost a thousand years. Bhutan, however, was a poor country.People died at a young age. Most of its people could not read, and they did not know much about the outside world. Then,in 1972,a new ruler named King Jigme Singye Wangchuck decided to help Bhutan to become modern, but without losing its traditions.King Wangchuck looked at other countries for ideas. He saw that most countries measured their progress by their Gross National Product(GNP).The GNP measures products and money. When the number of products sold increases, people say the country is making progress.King Wangchuck had a different idea for Bhutan. He wanted to measure his country's progress by people's happiness. If the people's happiness increased, the king could say that Bhutan was making progress. To decide if people were happier,he created a measure called Gross National Happiness(GNH).GNH is based on certain principles that create happiness.People are happier if they have health care, education, and jobs. They are happier when they live in a healthy, protected environment. They are happier when they can keep their traditional culture and customs. Finally, people are happier when they have agood, stable government. Now there is some evidence of increased GNH in Bhutan.People are healthier and are living longer. More people are educated and employed.Twenty-five percent of the land has become national parks, and the country has almost no pollution. The Bhutanese continue to wear their traditional clothing and follow their ancient Buddhist customs.Bhutan has also become a democracy. In 2008,King Wangchuck gave his power to his son.Although the country still had a king,it held its first democratic elections that year. Bhutan had political parties and political candidates for the first time. Finally,Bhutan has connected to the rest of the world through television and internet.Bhutan is a symbol for social progress. Many countries are now interested in Bhutan's GNH.These countries are investigating their own ways to measure happiness. They want to create new policies that take care of their people, cultures, and land.Brazil may be the next country to use the principles of GNH.Brazilian leaders see the principles of GNH as a source of inspiration.Brazil is a large country with a diverse population. If happiness works as a measure of progress in Brazil, perhaps the rest of the world will follow.Apart from modernizing Bhutan, what else did Wangchuck want to do for Bhutan?A:To make its population grow.B:To keep it separate from the world.C:To encourage its people to get rich.D:To keep its traditions and customs.

Nor do they have expensive hospitals.Yet injuries are treated. And diseases are often cured. How?By ancient methods. By medicines that might seem mysterious , even magical(有魔力的).Traditional medicines are neither mysterious nor magical, however.Through the centuries , tribal(部落的)medicine men experimented with plants. They found many useful chemicals in the plants. And scientists believe many of these traditional medicines may provide the cure for some of today's most serious diseases.Experts say almost 80% of the people in the world use plants for health care. These natural medicines are used not just because people have no other form of treatment. They are used because people trust them. In developed areas, few people think about the source of the medicines they buy in a store .Yet many widely-used medicines are from ancient sources, especially plants. Some experts say more than 25%of modem medicines come,in one way or another, from nature.Scientists have long known that nature is really a chemical factory. All living things contain chemicals that help them survive .So scientists' interest in traditional medicine is not new.But it has become an urgent concern. This is because the earth's supply of natural medicines may be dropping rapidly. It can be seen from the passage that the earth's supply of natural medicines______.A: may never be exhaustedB: may be dropping rapidlyC: is surprisingly bigD: is as rich as ever

第一篇There are many ways of defining success. It is accurate to say that each of us has our own concept of success to the extent that each of us is responsible for setting our own goals and determining whether we have met these goals satisfactorily.Because each of us possesses unique differences in genetic ability and favorable environments in which to express these abilities,it is necessarily true that we must define success broadly. For some people, simply being able to live their life with a minimum of misery and suffering is considered a success.Think of the peace of mind of the poor shepherd who tends his sheep, enjoys his frugal life with his family in the beauty of nature, and who is respected because he does a good job of achieving the goals expected of and accepted by him and his society. On the other hand,it seems that even though some people appear to be rich in material possessions, many of them seem to be miserable and consider themselves unsuccessful when judged by their own standards of success. Because not all ventures can be successful, one should not set unrealistic goals for achieving suecess, but if one has self-confidence it would be unfortunate to set one's goals at too low a level of achievement.A wise counselor once said to a young man who was experiencing frustration with his own professional success:"You do not have to set your goal to reach the moon in order to have success in traveling. Sometimes one can be very successful merely by taking a walk in the park or riding the subway downtown."The counselor added,"You have not really failed and spoiled your chances for success until you have been unsuccessful at something you really like, and to which you have given your best effort."Some rich people consider themselves unsuccessful because_________.A:their life is miserableB:they do not live in peaceC:their goals are too lowD:they are not rich enough by their own standards

Faces, like fingerprints, are unique.Did you ever wonder how it is possible for us to recognize people? Even ask illed writer probably could not describe all the features that make one face different from another. Yet a very young child or even an animal, such as a pigeon--can learn to recognize faces, we all take this ability for granted.
We also tell people apart by how they behave. When we talk about someone′ s personality, we mean the ways in which heor she acts, speaks, thinks and feels that make that individual different from others.
Like the human face, human personality is very complex. But describing someone′ s personality in words is somewhat easier than describing his face. If you were asked to describe what a "nice face"looked like, you probably would have a difficult time doing so. But if you were asked to describe a "nice person", you might begin to think about someone who was kind, considerate, friendly, warm, and so forth.
There are many words to describe how a person thinks, feels and acts. Gordon Allport, an American psychologist, found nearly 18,000 English words characterizing differences in people′s behavior. And many of us use this information as a basis for describing or typing his personality. Bookworms, conservatives, military types--people are describedwith such terms.
People have always tried to "type" each other. Actors in early Greek drama wore masks to show the audience whether they played the villain′s or the hero′s role. In fact, the words "person" and"personality" come from the Latin person a, meaning "mask".Today, most television and movie actors do not wear masks. But we can easilytell the "good guys" from the "bad guys" because the two types differ in appearance as well as in actions.
Which of the following is the major point of the passage?A.Why it is necessary to identify people's personality.
B.Why it is possible to describe people.
C.How to get to know people.
D.How to recognize people best.
