考题 Most of us,when we reached our teens, started looking forward to the day when we would occupy places of our own,far from the confines of our families. We saw this moving away as a chance to strike out on our own,to grow,to spread out wings and experience freedom. At the same time,we regarded this independence as temporary-the thing to do until we found the perfect mate and married. Over the years, many millions of people have made this passage from one family to another, with just a brief, often nervous interval of independence in between. But recently, more and more people have begun to challenge the concept that living together is better than living alone. Being single is now accepted as an alternative lifestyle-one that is natural, rewarding, and complete. In fact, being single has become almost fashionable.

考题 完形填空Ahhh, summer. Time to relax. You cannot have complete rest if you ___1___it too seriously. But taking vacations seriously is exactly___2___we Americans seem to do. In the same way our kids free time is now packed with activities, we adults have turned vacations into active leisure. Anytime you try very hard to relax, thats active leisure. Our vacations___3___with an agenda, a purpose. Were visiting family, attending weddings, going camping, and making sure we ride that roller coaster-no matter how long the line is. We Americans are so active in our leisure___4___we commonly complain we need a vacation from our vacations. We leave home___5___; we come back exhausted. Thats why many of us have decided not to go. The average American will leave four vacation days on the table this year, which adds up to a total 574 million days of___7___vacation. Our relationship to relaxation seems contradictory. We spend more money than anyone else in the world on leisure-fully one-___8___of our income-and yet at the same time we are No. 1 in the world at not taking vacations. One of the top reasons given for not taking a vacation is that its too much extra work. We have to get___9___of our work in order to leave, and then we have to catch up on our work upon our return. The longer the vacation we take, the bigger the stumbling blocks appear. So only 14% of Americans will take a vacation two weeks or longer this summer. Bottom linE、its simply become too stressful to relax. We Americans take our time off so seriously that you can now get a Ph.D. in leisure studies at Penn State and 17 other famous universities. You can say that an ecosystem is the natural environment where biological organisms(生物)such as plants, animals and humans co-exist in this world. So naturally that includes you and me. Yes,we are all members of an ecosystem!2 .There are different kinds of ecosystems depending on the type of surface or environ-ment. Most are naturally made such as the ocean or lake and the desert or rainforest. Some are man-made or artificial to encourage co-habitation(同居)between living and non-living things in a monitored environment, such as a zoo or garden.3 .Plants make up the biggest group of biological creatures within an ecosystem, and that's because they are the natural food producers for everyone. Plants raised in the earth need air and collect sunlight to help them grow. When they grow, the plants and its fruits or flowers eventually become a source of food to animals, microorganisms(微生物)and even hu- mans,of course. Food is then converted to energy for the rest of us to function, and this hap-pens in a never-ending cycle until the living creatures die and break up back in the earth.4 .Ecosystems are the basis of survival for all living things. We depend on plants and ani-mals for food. In order for us to exist,we need to grow and care about other organisms. We also need to care for the non-living things within our environment like our air and water so we can continue living as a population. Since plants, animals and humans are all of various species(物种),we all play a role in maintaining the ecosystem.5 .To preserve our ecosystems,we should stop using too much energy, which happens when we consume more than our share of resources. Humans should not disturb the natural habitat(栖息地)of plants and animals, and allow them to grow healthily for the cycle to con-tinue. Too many people in a habitat can mean displacement(搬迁): imagine being thrown out of your home because there is no more space for everyone. Worse, overpopulation can also ru- in the environment and cause destruction of existing plants and animals.Paragraph 4_________A: What Can We Do to Help Protect Ecosystems?B: What Are Different types of Ecosystems?C: What Is an Ecosystem?D: What Destroys Ecosystems?E: How Does an Ecosystem Work?F: Why Are Ecosystems Emportant?

考题 问答题Practice 7 That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far- reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our healthcare is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet. On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord. On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics. This is the journey we continue today. We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions - that time has surely passed. Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America. (Barack Obama: Inaugural Address)
