考题 Passage 1 Earlier this year, when America first sneezed, the European Central Bank (along with most private-sector economists) argued that the euro area was insulated from America's slowdown and had little to worry about. This seems to have wrong. In Germany there are fears about recession as business investment and retail sales tumble. Recent figures confirmed that Germany’s GDP stagnated in the second quarter. Italy's GDP fell in the second quarter, and although growth has held up better in France and Spain, the growth in the euro area as a whole was close to zero in the quarter. Nobody is forecasting an actual recession in the euro area this year, but it is no longer expected to provide an engine for world growth. As for Japan, it is probably already in recession. Japan's GDP grew slightly in the first quarter. Persistent deflation continues to be a severe problem. A revised measure of Japan’s consumer-price index, to be published soon, is likely to show that deflation is worse than had been thought. The best title for the passage is ___. A. The world economic situation. B. The world economic recession. C. The worse world economic situation. D. The reason for world economic recession.

考题 资料:Economic performance is improving in most of the world's leading economies but is still short of a self-sustaining upswing, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said on Wednesday. In an update to its economic forecasts, the Paris-based international organisation representing advanced economies said that more private sector investment was needed for the expansion to endure, for wages to rise sustainability and for inequalities to be tackled. Although all leading economies are now recording positive growth, Catherine Mann, the OECD's chief economist, urged governments to “curb your enthusiasm [ because] strong and sustained medium-term global growth is not yet secured”. The OECD's economic outlook shows upgrades to the 2017 growth forecasts in China, Russia and Europe excluding the UK with the world outlook also appearing stronger in 2018. World growth should rise from a low of 3.1 per cent in 2016, to 3.5 per cent this year and 3.7 per cent in 2018, the OECD forecast, with the US, the Eurozone, Brazil and Russia contributing most to the improved global outlook. China's predicted growth rate of 6.8 per cent in 2017 and 6.6 per cent in 2018 has been revised higher by 0.2 percentage points in both years and although India's growth rate has been revised down, reflecting adjustment to its new goods and services tax, it is likely to remain the fastest growing large economy in the world. Only the UK, which remains embroiled in Brexit negotiations, has a deteriorating outlook. Responding to the OECD's forecast that the British economy will be the slowest growing in the Group of Seven in 2018 having been near the top of the league table in 2016, the British Treasury said it was not complacent. According to OECD, ( ). A.More efforts will be needed to ensure a sustained economic growth B.Investment from the government contributes most to the world economy C.The market is pessimistic on the world economy D.The world economy is growing rapidly and steadily

According to the latest Forbes ranking of the world’s richest people, there are now a record 946 billionaires around the world. They have made their money from everything from telecoms to steel to Chinese food. [2] For the 13th year in a row, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is the richest person in the world. His personal fortune rose $6bn last year to $56bn (£29bn). His friend, the investment expert Warren Buffett, was the second richest. His fortune increased by $10bn during the year to reach $52bn. Both Mr. Gates and Mr. Buffett give a percentage of their fortunes to charity. Third richest is the Mexican telecoms entrepreneur Carlos Slim Helu, who added $19bn to his wealth, and now has $49bn. [3] The total wealth of all the people on the list grew by 35% during the year to $3.5 trillion as a result of rising property prices, commodities and stock markets. Luisa Kroll, who helped to compile the list at Forbes, said it was ‘an extraordinary year’. On the previous list, there were just 793 billionaires. [4] The richest Briton on the list is the Duke of Westminster, Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor, at number 5.Grosvenor inherited much of his wealth and is one of the UK’s Wealthiest landowners. He is said to be worth $11bn. Sir Philip Green, the retail entrepreneur who controls British Home Stores and Topshop owner Arcadia is the second richest Briton at number 104 on the list. Sir Philip, 55, has $7bn. Next are the property tycoons David and Simon Rueben, who are worth $4.5bn between them and are number 177 on the list. [5] There are 29 British citizens on the list. [6] The list shows growing wealth in both China and India, the two dynamic economies driving global economic growth. Another 14 people from India joined the list. With a total of 36 billionaires, India has now overtaken Japan, which has 24, as home to the most billionaires in Asia. There are three Indians in the top 20, led by Lakshmi Mittal, an Indian citizen who lives in London and who is number five on the list with $32bn. [7] There were 13 Chinese newcomers including Li Wei, the founder of Synear Food Holding. Her company is one of China’s largest producers of frozen food and is an official supplier to the Beijing Olympics in 2008. [8] The US still has 44% of the world billionaires but its share is getting smaller, Russia is also rising fast and has 53 billionaires according to Forbes. The Wal-Mart family dropped from the top 20, after a difficult year for the world’s largest retailer. [9] The average billionaire is 62 years old and 60% of the people on the list made their money from scratch. Around 100 unmarried men are included among the world’s wealthiest. At the top of the list of bachelors are Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin—unmarried at 33 and 34 respectively, they are both worth $16.6bn and are number 26 in the overall list. The 47-year-old Canadian founded his circus-based, animal-free acrobatic show in 1984 and still keeps 95% of the business. His fortune is estimated at $1.5bn. The richest woman, at number 12, is 84-year-old L’Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt, with a fortune of $20.7bn. Chat show queen Oprah Winfrey is believed to be worth $1.5bn. 考题 单选题Passage 1 The World Cup has become the most streamed live sporting event the US has ever seen, as Americans tuned in to this year's tournament on their smart phones, tablets and computers in record numbers. A of US interest in football this year has also led to record television audiences for broadcasts on ESPN and Uni-vision, the Spanish-language network. The US team's loss on Tuesday to Belgium averaged a 9.6 0vernight rating on ESPN, according to Nielsen, the highest for any World Cup match the network has broadcast. But a 50 per cent surge in live streaming compared with the previous record, set during the 2012 London Olympics, shows that the sport's appeal has grown particularly among younger, more digital, fans. Young people are energetic and fond of sporting. The World Cup is a great tournament of football, so they must be attractive. On the other hand, now the electronic devices are developing rapidly, more people have smart phones, tablets and computers. Then to watch the World Cup becomes much easier.US viewers have so far watched nearly 30m hours of streaming video on ESPN's World Cup website and apps, the network said, beating the previous record of 20.4m viewing hours during NBC's 2012 0lympics coverage. Univision said its broadcast on Sunday of the Mexico vs. Netherlands match was the most-watched programme, of any kind, in US Spanish-language TV history, with an average 10.4m viewers. Its audiences have been the largest in cities with large Spanish-speaking populations, such as Miami, Los Angeles, Houston and New York. With most matches being shown during business hours, Americans are increasingly turning to their devices, such as smart phones, tablets and computers to keep up with the tournament. Fifa, football's governing body, said US fans make up 20 percent of its global digital audience and are spending more time on its website and apps than fans in Brazil, Germany, England and France combined. With different kind of electronic devices to watch World Cup, the number of audience becomes larger.
